Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2020-09-23
Last updated: 2026-02-12

NB Renamer is a desktop application developed by Hermit (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains our data practices and your privacy rights regarding the use of the NB Renamer software.

1. Local Processing (No Data Collection)

NB Renamer is designed with a “privacy-first” architecture. The application operates entirely on your local device.

  • No Transmission: We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal information on our servers.
  • No Tracking: We do not use cookies, web beacons, or hidden tracking technologies.
  • Offline Functionality: The core functionality of the application does not require an internet connection to operate.
  • Your Files: All file names, metadata, and contents processed by NB Renamer remain exclusively on your device and are never accessed, viewed, or stored by us or any third party.

2. Diagnostic Logging (Pro Edition Only)

The Pro Edition includes an optional diagnostic logging feature to assist with technical support.

  • User Controlled: Logging is disabled by default. If enabled, logs are stored locally on your machine.
  • Manual Submission: Logs are only sent to us if you manually choose to attach them to a support email.
  • Usage & Retention: We use these logs exclusively to troubleshoot reported issues. In compliance with our developer obligations, we will promptly delete any personal information contained in error logs once the support ticket is resolved and will not share this data with third parties.

3. Microsoft Store & Analytics

NB Renamer is distributed via the Microsoft Store.

  • Store Interaction: Download, installation, and updates are managed by Microsoft and are subject to the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
  • Aggregated Analytics: Microsoft provides us with anonymous, aggregated telemetry (such as the number of downloads or crashes by region). This data is provided in a summarized format that does not identify you personally.

The application may contain links to external websites (e.g., documentation or support pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites and encourage you to review their policies independently.

5. Children’s Privacy

Our application does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since all file processing is local and we do not maintain user accounts, we do not have the means to identify or store data from any user, including children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA).

6. Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

Because we do not collect or store your personal data, we do not maintain a database for data portability or deletion requests. If you have previously shared diagnostic logs with us via email, you may contact us at any time to request their immediate deletion.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the software or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will indicate when the most recent changes were made.
